Ganpati Kriya

Kundalini Yoga Meditation for Breakthroughs

Posture

Begin by sitting in an easy cross-legged position on the floor, or you may choose to sit in a chair with your feet flat on the ground. Maintain a long, upright spine and ensure your root is supportive, providing the foundation for the meditation.

Mantra

The mantra for Ganpati Kriya is: Sa-Ta-Na-Ma-Ra-Ma-Da-Sa-Sa-Say-So-Hung. This mantra encapsulates the following meanings: Existence, Life, Death, Rebirth, Sun, Moon, Earth, Infinity, I am That Infinity I Belong To and Contain

Mudra

As you chant each syllable of the mantra, touch your thumb to the corresponding fingertip:

  • Thumb to index fingertip – chant Sa, 2nd time Ra, 3rd time Sa

  • Thumb to middle fingertip – chant Ta, 2nd time Ma, 3rd time Say

  • Thumb to ring fingertip – chant Na, 2nd time Das, 3rd time So

  • Thumb to pinkie fingertip – chant Ma, 2nd time Sa, 3rd time Hung

  •

Chant in a monotone or develop your own melody.

Eye Gaze:

Maintain your gaze with your eyes slightly open—about one-tenth open—looking down and inward toward the tip of your nose.

Duration and Focus

Continue this meditation for a period ranging from 11 to 62 minutes.

To Close the Meditation

To conclude, inhale deeply and hold your breath for 30 seconds. During this time, move your body in a slow, twisting and stretching motion, alternating between stretching and tensing all your muscles, from your face, head, and neck down to your toes. Exhale and repeat this ending sequence two more times.

Finally, inhale once more and sit calmly, concentrating on the tip of your nose for 20 seconds, allowing yourself to feel completely calm and absolutely still.

Symbolism and Benefits

This powerful meditation is named after Ganesha, the elephant-headed deity of the Hindu pantheon, who stands as a symbol of stability and prosperity. Ganesha is often depicted with a mouse, representing the capacity to access hidden places and escape from seemingly inescapable situations. Ganpati Kriya is intended for healing, balance, creativity, harmony, and flow. It can be said that this meditation tunes the energy strings that give rise to all phenomena.
